Internet cafe chain denies plan to shut Capital outlet

A MAJOR internet cafe chain has given reassurances that its Edinburgh branch will not be closed.
A spokesman for easyInternet has said that there are currently no plans to sell the company’s popular Rose Street premises.
His comments came in the wake of an announcement by the Easy Company’s owner, Stelios Haji-Ioannou, that he would be selling the flagship easyInternet outlet in Oxford Street, London.
In a statement, Mr Haji-Ioannou said he had been advised he could make a profit from the sale of the lease of the store, which has 300 computers.
The sale has prompted speculation that other branches of the internet cafe would shut as well.
Mr Haji-Ioannou also stated that the company would be reviewing the future of the four other London outlets, with a view to focussing on smaller, less expensive sites.
However, the spokesman denied reports that this policy was being applied to the Edinburgh branch.
"The fact is that we could sell the Oxford Street branch at a significant profit. However, we have no intentions of selling our Edinburgh outlet. It is not something we are considering."
Launched five years ago, the Greek entrepreneur had hoped that by offering cheap, fast internet access, he could score a success on a par with his easyJet company.
However, the advent of even cheaper broadband access at home means that people do not have to look to commercial outlets.
